NAIDOC week at Waveforms – EOI callout

  • Free digital up-skilling workshops
  • Artist commission opportunity

EOIs close:

Hardcopies – 5:00pm Friday 24th April to {B}LAB, 2 Parkfield Street, Bunbury (ground floor of Bunbury Library)

Online – midnight Sunday 26th April (via link below)

What is this?

1. FREE WORKSHOPS

Creative Tech Village (CTV) are holding a series of free workshops for creatives and artists to up-skill and develop their artwork using iPads to develop short-form animations. The workshops will take place at {B}LAB – the home of CTV on Parkfield Street (the ground floor of Bunbury Library).

2. ARTIST COMMISSIONS

Up to 8 (eight) artists or artist teams will then be chosen through a selection panel to have their animated works projected onto BRAG, as part of NAIDOC Week at WAVEFORMS— a light and digital art project happening in Bunbury during NAIDOC Week 2026.

The selected artists will have their artwork brought to life with animation techniques they’ll develop through the workshop series and with support from the production team. The final works will be projected on the outside of the BRAG building or surrounds, using projection mapping — a technology that turns a building’s facade or nature surfaces into giant canvases of moving light and colour. The result will be a public show that the whole community can come and see, in collaboration with the City of Bunbury.

The artist commissions will be paid. It is also a chance to learn new digital skills, work alongside other artists, and have your work shown in a big, public way. You will also be paid for cultural consultation through the co-creation of developing your artwork with the production team.

Who can apply?

We are open to Indigenous artists at any stage of their creative journey. You do not need to have used digital tools before — that is what the workshops are for.

We are looking for people who:

  • are Indigenous living on Noongar country
  • paint, draw, weave, tell stories, dance, photograph, or use any other art form
  • are interested in seeing their work shown in a new way using light and technology
  • can commit to attending the workshop series and working with our production team during May-June 2026
  • aged 16+

Please note: not applications can be accepted as we have limited tech equipment. We may hold additional workshops post-event if there is demand.

The Show Night

Once the workshops and development processes are complete, your artwork will be projected onto the outside of BRAG during NAIDOC Week 2026. The show will be open to the public and free to attend. You will be invited to attend the show as a featured artist. We will acknowledge your work and your contribution to the project.

Depending on resources, we may be able to show works that were created through the workshops on a smaller projected slideshow – this will also be optional to the artists.

A note about the weather: The show night is planned for winter, so we will have a backup date/location in case of bad weather. We will keep you informed well in advance. Your artwork and your fee are not affected if the show date needs to change.

Artist Commissions

This is a paid opportunity. All selected artists will receieve:

  • $2000 artist commission fee
    • for creating and delivering artwork for the project
  • Cultural Consultation fee
    • A separate payment for your time attending co-creation sessions with the production team. Your cultural knowledge and expertise has value — we pay for it.

Full payment details will be discussed with selected artists before any agreement is signed.

More information

Waveforms is an activation project by CTV in the aim to light up Goomburrup/Bunbury. The project is primarily funded by the City of Bunbury.

The tech equipment we will be using are iPads, with Procreate and Procreate Dreams. The iPads will have special pencils to help bring your artwork to life. These will be supplied by CTV, however equipment is limited. The iPads must remain at {B}LAB during the workshop series. If you wish to use one of the ipads outside of the workshop times, a desk space may be made available to you at {B}LAB during office hours.

The sessions will be facilitated by local artists and production teams.

Potential projections onto BRAG may include the front facade, the grassed area, other side facades (including the carpark side), and/or large trees. The area/s chosen will be subject to the artist’s choosing in consultation with the production team.
