This year, Perth hosted the second International WEB3 Conference.

Web3 refers to the next generation of the internet, characterised by decentralisation, transparency, and user ownership. Unlike the current Web2, which relies heavily on centralised platforms and intermediaries, Web3 aims to empower individuals by giving them more control over their data and digital assets. Blockchain technology plays a central role in Web3, enabling trustless transactions and decentralised applications (DApps). Key features of Web3 include the use of cryptocurrencies, smart contracts, and decentralised autonomous organisations (DAOs) to create a more democratic and inclusive online ecosystem. Web3 represents a shift towards a more equitable and resilient internet infrastructure.

Web3 is an exciting platform for creative technologists who can utilise Blockchain technology to create authentic digital art, with traceable ownership through non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Game developers leverage blockchain for in-game assets, ownership, and economies as they can create immersive gaming experiences where players truly own their digital assets. Content creators working in the Web3 space can utilise tokenomics for direct fan support. As with all technologies, the role of UX/UI designers plays a vital role in designing user-friendly platforms in support of greater mainstream adoption.
