Inheritance | Film by Myles Pollard

Inheritance is an evocative Australian short film written and directed by Myles Pollard, celebrated for his work in television and film, including McLeod’s Daughters and several Australian features. The drama follows John Barker, a recently paroled man who returns to rural life to care for his ailing grandfather and rebuild his future after incarceration. Struggling with the weight of a difficult past and a toxic work environment, John discovers a journal detailing the life of his convict ancestor. As he restores an old wooden sailboat left to him, he embarks on a powerful journey of self-discovery, confronting the legacy of inherited trauma and learned behaviours in order to break destructive cycles and find resilience, acceptance and forgiveness. Co-written with Ben Mortley, Inheritance blends live performance and animation to explore intergenerational history and the human capacity for growth and change.
